Burn2 Theme Camp Submission Deadline Looms

As the Sept 5 deadline for Burn2 theme camp submissions closes in, I took the opportunity to do a general pulse check on how things are going over on the playa, and how Burn2 parcels allocation is coming along. With the lottery closed, a winning theme camp idea is now the best hope for securing a free camp.

But first, a tidbit of fun – the Burn2 logo currently flies proudly over the Burn2 camp at the RL Burning Man. Philip Rosedale is reported to have dropped in and said hi to the Burn2 organizers that are there.

Updates

Rather than having a land rush this year, the Burn2 team opted for a lottery for the free parcels. A 100L donation gave you a shot at a parcel – and recently the 25 lottery winners were announced (listed below). I asked lottery winner Neeks Karu about her good fortune. “I’m so honored to be one of the lucky ones to get a lottery camp. I’m excited to be part of this next stage of evolution of the burn in SL. The community spirit is still strong and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out!”

I was lucky enough to catch Department of Public Works chief Kev Sweetwater on the playa and check in. He confirmed that this year will definitely be smaller than the expansive affair of 2009 (likely under 10 sims), but that that doesn’t seem to be hampering the fun much. I found him in good spirits and he also remarked on the growing excitement among the burner community.

A few items of information are worth passing along:

  1. Parcels are now 1024 sq meters (32×32) versus the originally planned 512 sq meters. While the allocated prim count remains the same (351), builders now have a bit more elbow room.
  2. Reserved parcels are still available, and will be available throughout September. The intent here is that the team is willing to add sims to fit parcel demand (within reason – they won’t add a sim for a small handful of parcels). There’s naturally a bit of lead time on set up, so there will come a point where this will close, but no firm date is set as of yet.
  3. Some arts patrons have been reported to be funding camps for some builders. I checked with Danger Ranger, and he confirmed that parcels can be bought as gifts on xstreetsl.
  4. Volunteer sign ups are well underway, and folks interested in joining the community can sign up here.
  5. Drop in on they playa at this slurl for further information, to donate to the cause, reserve a parcel or just check things out and gab.

This year’s lottery winners are: Ara Voom, Buddy Deed, Caro Fayray, Cataplexia Numbers, Charity Baroque, Danie Jameson, Eisie Etchegaray, ginny Noyes, Heaven Lacey, Ilianexsi Sojourner, Jaxie Oceanlane, Lauston Oh, Liz Gealach, Majique Merlin, Miso Susanowa, Neeks Karu, paramparamm Papp, Pete Jiminy, Rox Arten, Shendara Destiny, Snurky Snoodle, Sporty Tone, Tozh Taurog, Xaan Allen, Zipper Moomintoog

New Series: Today’s Featured Art

Hello everyone! I’m pleased to announce that today I am starting a brand new series for this blog called “Today’s Featured Art” where I feature one piece of art that I have created for all to see.

Today’s Featured Art piece is [-AS-] Harmonic Resonance.

Harmonic Resonance 2

Harmonic Resonance 3

I was inspired to name this piece Harmonic Resonance because of the way it all flows smoothly, through different shapes and then back to it’s original shape.

If you liked this feature, dont forget to come visit my shop so that you can see it in action! My art is constantly moving, so be sure to come and see it yourself. You can find [-AS-] Abstract Soul by either going to this SLURL or by checking my in world profile @ Methias Kira.

Evolution of a Blog~

wondering-banner

I started blogging in November 2007, just a mere few days after I rezzed in Second Life. If you are interested in a trip down memory lane… you can start here. If nothing else, it might serve as a reminder that we all started somewhere, and there was a learning curve. ;) My blog has definitely changed bit by bit over time — I learned more, I observed more, and I became a little more technologically proficient. Perhaps most importantly, I became part of a community that can be extraordinarily helpful, with someone always willing to answer questions, provide tutorials, and even give away their best blogging secrets. The generosity of the fashion blogging community is often overwhelming. I hope I’ve been able to put some of that wealth to good use.

As I approach the beginning of my fourth year as a Second Life blogger, I would like to make an even bigger evolutionary step. I’m moving my blog over to a new domain of my own, changing the name, and expanding its coverage somewhat. Nissa and crew will be now be blogging over at Wondering The Grid: Designing a Second Life with Passion and Style. Fashion and avatar style will always be a huge part of my blogging, but I also want to take a look at how we create and style our environments, and our lives. Pretty much anything that figures into your motivation to log-in to Second Life is fair game.

So while I’m moving, please forgive the dust in the corners, and the rough edges. I’ll be posting on both blogs until I can get all my ducks, and feeds, in a row :)

Long way home

This second post features more creations from Designers United 4 and is dedicated to the Home & Décor items I was able to spot ! I will add the slurl to the actual location into my posts closer to the time of the official opening, tomorrow. All of these items are exclusive and will not be sold again after the event ends.

Blackboards, tables set, floor mirror and rug from [North West] by Lili Brink.

Numero uno… let’s start with me shall, we ? Since I made these, I have a few things to add in some accompanying text to the images for a change, other than ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’. So here we have some decorative blackboards, with their three panels inscribed with lines from a poem by Paul Valéry, “Fragments du Narcisse”. A translation of the lines I quoted is included in the box. Next I made these tables thinking the criss-crossing lines jutting from the legs gave them an organic feel well in keeping with the theme; one of them has also a drawing of flowers I scribbled baked on the top. The floor mirror, with its simple wooden frame and a puddle of water leaking from the bottom, came to me while looking at paintings depicting Narcissus and the pose is inspired from the one by Waterhouse. You might have gotten a glimpse of it here already when I used it in my fashion post of the 28th. Last I added the texture-change rug with its flowery pattern as a sort of “natural” backdrop for the ensemble, green on brown, but there are also 3 other colour schemes included.

The pictures were taken using Stein Shilova’s skybox as a setting, which is sold exclusively at Trilogy, and has amazingly good textures scripted into it.

And here we have a prefab from Tee*fy, by Azure Electricteeth (copyable, 115 prims). It has very cute flower-shaped lights. Love their shadows, and the openness of the prefab layout !

These bench, table and wall lights are from Y’s House, by yacchan Clip, and will easily complement any of their existing prefabs.

There is also a house from Surf co. by Emma Gilmour, see pics here ! I also just saw today we both had the same idea about a mirror on the floor with a contemplating pose except the one she made is, no questions asked, way better with the details and textures and sculpts.

I think that’s it !
